A few weeks ago, we shared key Sencha roadmap themes with Sencha customers and community members. We are thankful to more than 700 customers for providing generous product feedback using the survey. We received thousands of detailed product roadmap and feature ideas that we are in the process of prioritizing.

Here are some highlights from the survey:

Ext JS Framework (toolkit) versions you are using

The majority of Ext JS developers are on 6.x Classic and Modern. Those who are on 5.x and 4.x are looking for a convenient option to migrate to Ext JS 6.x Modern.

Ext JS roadmap features

Bringing Ext JS Modern to parity with Ext JS Classic continues to be the top ask from you. That ask is followed closely by the request for an easy framework upgrade tool.

GXT roadmap features

GXT developers want layout containers that enable responsive design, as well as support for material design theme. We also received number of requests for enhanced support for the GWT compiler from Google, specifically support for GWT 2.8.2, upcoming GWT 2.9, as well as future GWT 3.0 (J2CL compiler).

Thousands of feature requests

In addition, we received thousands of comments and feature requests from you. A few of those comments are listed below:

  • We would like to know the road map for EXT classic / modern. We have invested in this framework for years and due to the size of our application, we cannot pivot.
  • An easy way to upgrade patch, minor and major versions.
  • Single developer license; more options to license as a consultant for a one time development of small projects.
  • Public JIRA, and shared GIT repo so that we can share all our bugfixes with you. We probably have about 50 overrides.
  • Investing into Sencha is like investing into a stack like Microsoft. Backward compatibility and long-term commitment is key. Windows 7 with IE 11 is supported by Microsoft until the end of 2020 – will Classic 6.x be?
  • Sencha Architect performance or continued investment in Visual Studio integration being current and compelling.
  • I think you’re lacking with providing accurate training. Our organization will not pay for this as I’ve asked several times.
  • PWA improvements.
  • Good Seamless Workflow Integration across all of these: Themer, Architect and Testing.
  • ExtAngular, integration of Ext JS to Delphi RAD Studio.
  • Documentation generator for customers.
  • React and Ext working together is important for us.
  • Architect should be a tool RAD like Delphi.
  • For ExtReact, Being able to load Ext JS components require JS style instead of Sencha Cmd.
  • For GXT, more stability, GWT 3.0 ready. More activity and general information to buying customers, more and better examples documentation.
